After a one year hiatus, the Brisbane Night Noodle Markets are back! Bringing the best of Asian-inspired street food to the Botanic Gardens from 21 July to 1 August, get ready for the intoxicating smokey clouds of flame-licked meats, the slurpy goodness of noodles swimming in sauce, and the oh-my-goodness-YUM moments of jaw-dropping desserts.

Walking through the open Night Noodle Markets is like a mini culinary-trek through South East Asia. And for those of us missing our hikes along bustling Asian roads – packed with hawkers’ street-side barbeques – the Night Noodle Markets are the perfect solution to your nostalgia. Just one whiff at the Night Noodle Markets and you’ll be right back on your Asian adventure – nothing evokes memory more than smell, after all!

This year we see the return of many favourite Night Noodle Market stallholders, but we’re also welcoming some newcomers as well. With so much choice, we thought we’d make a bucket list of Night Noodle Market dishes to try so that you get the very best out of Brisbane’s favourite food festival!

  1. Schillykickk  – Me So Meatless

How does crispy roti with Sriracha and miso-glazed fried eggplant tenders, kaffir lime and chilli mayo sound? A good roti is a heavenly thing, and when it’s served with warming, pungent and playful textures, it’s absolutely divine. Even better, a vegan and dairy-free option is available! @schillythaifusion may be new to the Night Noodle Markets, but we have a feeling they’ll be with us for a very long time.

    2. Stone & Copper Curry and Snack Bar – Rendang Beef

Just what the doctor ordered: some slow-cooked beef with coconut, fresh turmeric and aromatic spices served with steamed rice. After eating this rich, fragrant curry you’ll feel like your insides have been given a nice, warm hug. This classic Malaysian dish is expertly served by @stoneandcopper, with the beef rendered so incredibly soft it just falls apart. Incredible. This dish is also gluten-free and halal.

   3. Nodo Donuts – Sakura Smores with Strawberry Donut

It can’t be a Night Noodle Markets without phenomenal desserts! Check out our newbies @nododonuts, home of the original gluten-free, baked not fried, donut. They’ll be bringing their armada of signature Nodo Donuts, including; Raspberry with White Couverture; Beetroot Blackout with Couverture Dark Chocolate; and Vegan Chocolate Fairy Bread Donut with Brown Butter Cream Cheese. But it’s not just donuts! Look for their sundae menu (including the pineapple peanut caramel sundae) and their vegan soft-serve ‘whips’.

4. Gelato Messina – HK French Toast

How could you leave the Night Noodle Markets without something special from the wonderful genius of Gelato Messina?! Every year, Messina curate a special Asian-inspired menu for the Night Noodle Markets and this year… well, we think they’ve outdone themselves! There are three flavours to choose from; [our current crush] HK French Toast made with dulce de leche and peanut butter french toast with maple syrup gelato and condensed milk; Milo Fry Club with deep-fried milo gelato, Messinatella pudding and Oreo crumble topped with warm Messinatella; or Mango Pancakes with mango sorbet and vanilla chantilly wrapped in a Mango Crepe (two per serve). Don’t forget to tag us at @goodfoodmonth with your incredible @gelatomessina dishes!

5. Flying Noodles – Big Boss

Delicious, gravity-defying and completely Instagrammable! Flying Noodle have a few things popping off the menu including ‘Way of the Dragon’ (pork belly marinated for 48 hours in Korean Japchae sauce, cooked with Hoi Sin, butter, onion and Oyster sauce, served with seasonal veggies) and ‘Fist of Fury’ (prawn cutlet lightly seasoned with Tom Yum, veggies) but we love the Big Boss – chicken noodles cooked with traditional Chinese sweet soy sauce and Mei Kuri Lu, served with delicious vegetables. Tell hunger it’s fired with a big bowl of the Big Boss.

Clear your calendar and get yourself down to the Night Noodle Markets from 21 July – 1 August. Celebrating its new home in the City Botanic Gardens, you’ll discover all the smells and flavours of Asia that you’ve been missing. As always, entry to the Night Noodle Markets is free, however, in line with safety measures, you’ll just need to register for a free ticket online

The Night Noodle Markets are cash-free (all major cards welcome) so spend less time queuing – and more time eating! There’s a huge range of gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options plus there’s also live music and DJs! For all information, check out www.goodfoodmonth.com/brisbane/night-noodle-markets/
