Wilhelm Gabut

Growing up, Wil’s spent his afternoons watching cooking shows instead of cartoons, developing a passion for food and cooking at an early age.

Straight out of high school, Wil jumped into an apprenticeship working at The Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay under Colin Barker. There he quickly learnt the intensity and precision that came with fine dining.

In 2016, Wil won ‘Apprentice of the Year’ for the Sydney region.

After four years in the restaurant scene, he took a break from the kitchen scene to pursue charity work and travel before returning to cooking in 2020 at cafe and bakery Abode Cafe, Taringa, whilst also working as a private chef with Chef Pierre-Antoine Rey Du Boissieu at Wynberg.

Having experienced different styles of cooking and services, Wil looks to keep learning and growing, now leading the kitchen at  Tuan Nguyen’s Given Bar and Kitchen in Paddington specialising in Asian Charcoal BBQ.

Wil’s dream is to simply be able to showcase his Filipino heritage through food.
