Adam Liaw x Keita Abe
Date: Wednesday 12 June
Venue: Good Food Month Restaurant at Canvas House, 137 Buckhurst St, South Melbourne
Adam Liaw, television host of Destination Flavour and author of five incredible cookbooks, knows a lot about Asian cuisine. He’s a walking Wikipedia on food, and he’s inviting you on a cultural and culinary journey at the Good Food Month Restaurant at Canvas House. Joining him is chef Keita Abe from Sydney institution, Chaco Bar.
Keita is the master of yakitori, cultivating a cult following with his famous meat skewers inspired by his native city of Fukuoka, Japan. Abe lists modern Asian Sydney stalwarts Toko and Mamasan on his CV. And while his tiny Izakaya in Darlinghurst tends to be more authentic in its approach to Japanese flavours, it’s been enough to capture the attention of the likes of Neil Perry, who named it one of his top ten favourite Asian restaurants in the country. Abe is currently in Japan foraging and stocking up on ingredients for this incredible dinner with Adam (including his grandmother’s secret dessert recipe) that will no doubt warm your taste-buds and to rid you of any winter chills.
While enjoying Keita and Adam’s food, let Adam’s anecdotes of living and eating in Japan entertain and transport you on this culinary journey. You’ll be transfixed on Adam’s knowledge and passion for food and it’s interwoven history with culture. This fantastic multi-course dinner is served with matched wines.
