Peter Gilmore and Jock Zonfrillo at Quay
Date: Thursday 24 October
Venue: Quay Restaurant, Overseas Passenger Terminal, The Rocks NSW 2000
Good Food Month is proud to present one of the most iconic food events ever hosted. The 2019 Good Food Guide Citi Chef of the Year Peter Gilmore, will be working alongside Jock Zonfrillo, head chef and owner of the 2019 Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year, Orana (Adelaide) for an incredibly special evening where Australian cuisine and native ingredients are put in the spotlight by two of the best chefs in the country.
This is a rare opportunity to bring together two three-hat restaurants. Peter Gilmore’s Quay has long been the stalwart of Sydney’s fine dining, awarded three chefs hats for 16 consecutive years, including being named Restaurant of the Year six times. Peter’s appreciation of nature’s diversity and his endless experimentation in the kitchen and garden are the driving forces in his cooking. He collaborates with a range of producers, from fishermen who hand dive and line catch the seafood he serves, to the farmers who rear rare breed animals with superior flavour and texture for the table.
Jock Zonfrillo isn’t just head chef and owner of the Best Restaurant of the Year, he also is a champion of native Australian produce. He created the Orana Foundation, which recognises the unique relationship that Indigenous people have with the land and their rich heritage of traditional food culture. At just 17, he turned up at one of Marco Pierre White’s restaurants broke, broken, with a less than impressive CV. Marco hired him on the spot. By 22, he’d landed his first head chef position at The Tresanton Hotel, Cornwall, England, and later took the helm of restaurant Forty One during its heyday. Today, Zonfrillo’s Orana (an indigenous word for “welcome”) is one of the most awarded restaurants in the country.
Good Food Month is honoured to host this exciting collaboration, and we encourage you to buy your tickets quickly as numbers are very limited.
