The Gantry Restaurant | Banc Revisited with Matt Kemp and Thom Gorringe

Banc teamed Sydney’s most spectacular marble-clad dining room with polished French cuisine plated to perfection. As one of Sydney’s most iconic restaurants, Banc defined fine dining in the 90s and 00s and created the next generation of top chefs that have gone on to permeate the Australian dining scene over the years; including Matt Kemp, Colin Fassnidge, Warren Turnbull, Chui Lee Luk and Justin North.

Bringing back a taste of Banc’s legendary menu for one night only, Matt Kemp who was then the chef de cuisine at Banc, has become one of Australia’s most well recognised and respected chefs. The Michelin trained chef now calls The Byron at Byron home, bringing his sophisticated touch and culinary talent to this well-loved regional destination. He will be joined by rising star Thom Gorringe of The Gantry Restaurant; a Young Chef of the Year finalist with experience working in some of Australia’s best restaurant kitchens. Still under 30, he has risen through the ranks and is now Head Chef at one of Sydney’s most historic harbourside restaurants.

The two chefs will join forces for a retrospective take on some of Banc’s iconic French dishes with a modern focus on celebrating sustainability and the best quality Australian produce available. We now care more than ever where our produce is sourced, Matt and Thom’s Banc recreation will see a comparative menu, taking you on a journey of produce and dining. Some dishes will be plated traditionally, exactly as they were during Banc’s heyday, while the other half of the menu will re-imagine those classic dishes with produce and plating not available back in the 90s.

Join us for some 90s nostalgia with a contemporary twist at waterside dining spot The Gantry Restaurant for a one off special event. Hosted by Good Food’s very own Jill Dupleix, with cameo appearances from some old Banc faces, she will share her own memories of Banc and how Australian food culture has changed over time.
