Join the former Good Food Guide editor and Festival Director of Good Food Month, Joanna Savill, as she invites legendary master chef Neil Perry to explore all the glorious food that has influenced his cooking over the past 20 years, presented by David Jones Food.
Perry’s Rockpool Restaurant Group is the most awarded restaurant group in the country, with 15 Good Food Guide Chefs Hats across seven dining experiences.
He is undoubtedly one of Australia’s leading and most influential chefs, with restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. His flagship restaurant, Rockpool, is well and truly a Sydney institution, opening in 1989 – and just six months later was voted Sydney’s best new restaurant in the Good Food Guide.

Neil is a chef, a restaurateur, an author, television presenter and a culinary Ambassador for Australia. His empire spans cuisines, from classic steakhouse to provincial Chinese, while his venues’ dining styles range from fine dining restaurants, to relaxed bistros, to fast diners. Neil has worked with many other of our most iconic chefs such as Damien Pignolet, Gay Bilson, Stephanie Alexander, Steve Manfredi and David Thompson.
With a career spanning 30 years, Neil Perry is a man that has had a profound effect on the quality of dining Australians have come to expect – and to appreciate. He’s raised the bar across everything from the attentive, knowledgeable service we love at restaurants, to the produce and creativity in the dishes chefs create, to the balanced drinks from discerning bartenders, to the condition and sustainability of ingredients from producers.
Neil’s business, the Rockpool Dining Group, is a network that has helped build the economy of hospitality, of relationships, employment, and giving care within the industry. And we’re very happy he decided to give up his hairdressing apprenticeship all those years ago because who knows where the Australian, if not global, dining scene would be without him.
