Young Chefs Lunch presented by Citi

Date: Sunday, 21 October 2018
Time: 12:30pm – 3:00pm
Venue: Hyde Park Palms, Hyde Park North (St James Station), Elizabeth St

Mentored by Bennelong head chef, Rob Cockerill, Sydney’s next generation of culinary superstars want to make you a lunch you’ll never forget.

The Young Chefs Lunch showcases the (already impressive) skills of the young guns of the country’s top kitchens. Enjoy a three course lunch with matched wines in the chic surrounds of Good Food Month’s pop up restaurant, the uber-sleek Hyde Park Palms. Joining Cockerill in the kitchen is 2019 Josephine Pignolet Young Chef of the Year award finalists Malcolm Hanslow (Oscillate Wildly) and Jessica Moore (Chef de partie, Bea at Barangaroo) and Brian Murray (Bennelong). These talented stars are a shining light in Sydney’s uber-competitive restaurant scene, and have designed a menu you’re going to love.

Cockerill will be lending his prowess and overseeing the work of these protégés, so don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a lunch of this calibre.

Rob Cockerill
Bennelong

Cockerill is Head Chef of Peter Gilmore’s two-hatted Bennelong restaurant, the Sydney institution housed at Sydney’s Opera House. Safe to say, he knows how to produce the wow-factor.

He’s been partners in the kitchen with Gilmore for aeons, having been senior sous chef at Quay for seven years before they headed up Bennelong together. Cockerill’s forte is sourcing the best Australian produce, forging invaluable relationships with Quay’s producers.

Having been inspired by his mum’s excellent cooking, he finished school and got a job in a local cafe. From there he headed to London, landing a commis chef role at uber-cool restaurant, Electric Diner, Notting Hill. When he came back to Sydney after three years with the Soho House group, he literally knocked on the back door of Quay, wanting to meet the man himself and give him his CV. It worked – and the two chefs have been inseparable ever since.
